How many points is this worth?
- Points don't matter, weight does.
- Your grade is comprised of 3 categories... HW/CW, Tests/Quizzes, Semester Final.
- Each is worth different amounts of your grade. HW/CW (10%), Tests/Quizzes (70%), Semester Final (20%).
- Every assignment in the category has equal weight... (unless otherwise stated)
- This means the more assignments we add into each category, the less each individual assignment is worth, BUT the category stays the same. All in the category average together and make that percentage of your grade.
What is my grade?
- I probably don't know off the top of my head and likely will not have time to check for you...
- Check in Synergy (click here). If you do not know your user name or password, or it "does not work" please see the main office.
- Grades are updated every 1-2 weeks, and if you are concerned that you may not be passing, schedule a time to see me.
What can I do to raise my grade?
- Turn in work that you missed... note: not all work can be made up
- Retake an assessment, schedule it with me
- Work hard to turn in work on time and do well on assessments in the future.
I missed class... What do I need to make up?
- Check synergy to see if there are any assignments without grades.
- Ask your friends what we did.
- Check the Website in the notes section.
- See me if you need a paper
When can I find Mr. Sheaffer for make up work?
- Email me to schedule a time (Best)
- Stop by my room 146 between classes to see if I will be available later (Better)
- Ask in class when there is free time (Worst)
- Interrupt an in class activity or another class in progress (DON"T DO THIS, I will not help you)
I don't understand what we are doing... Where can I find help with my Math work?
- look on the internet!
- Ask your friends in the class
- Go to the SUN program math tutoring
- Schedule a tutoring session with Mr. Sheaffer
- If he is not available, check to see if any other math teachers are.
I do not feel like I am being treated fairly... What should I do?
- Talk to your teacher first, usually a conversation can help solve the problem.
- If you are not comfortable talking to the teacher, talk to your counselor. They can talk to a teacher for you.
- Keep an open mind, Misunderstandings can quickly escalate if they are mishandled.
